The new Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Facility (ARFF) is15,000 s.f. and includes sleeping units for 12 firefighters, 5 vehicle bays, a training /command center, watchroom, and support facilities.
The building is designed to meet LEED Silver requirements using insulated metal panel systems and daylighting as major design elements.
The designs for the Hilo and Kona Stations are mirrored and slightly larger in Kona. The Hilo Station has a construction cost of $12 million and a scheduled completion date in 2014. The Kona Station has a construction cost of $15 million and is set for completion in 2015.
MEH is responsible to provide all mechanical and fire protection designs to accommodate the specialized needs of this particular type of facility.
